Soon. I have a prepayed mastercard now. As soon as I can muster some cash I will buy this. Also I need to send some moneys to you erk, but I'm literally sitting at 10 eur after buying my computer and it's going to stay that way for the next 2 weeks.

So I might end up getting that electronic warfare type ship down the line, seems like it could be handy.

It'll be a bit before its flight or even hanger ready, so, no real rush...also, it'll be available in game, shouldn't actually be too hard to get

So?

It's about the only ship I'm really interested in, it's going to be a gameplay aspect that i've not had before in a space sim.

I'm not going to buy it any time soon anyway as I'm still really not overly sold on the game being what it claims it's going to turn into.

So minimal investment on my part, if it turns out to have worked then great, otherwise I'll just give it to one of you.

Re: RSI / Star Citizen
December 18, 2014 07:26PM
avatar
Well, minimum investment would be an aurora, basically getting the game for $30 instead of retail later for $60

Then u can use the Aurora to earn enough for the herald...or sell the aurora and Squadron 42 earnings to possibly afford the herald straight away

I'm aware of the pledges Yalk, none of the others particularly interest me, this is the only one that got more than a cursory glance.

So I'll get it when it's released, and besides all of the pledge ships will be available in the game so I'm really not following your logic here. I'd be paying the money to get the ship/experience I want, what's the issue?

Re: RSI / Star Citizen
December 18, 2014 09:12PM
avatar
That the game isn't f2p....the game will cost an up front purchase

I'm anticipating that the game will cost $60 at launch, so getting "the game" that happens to come with a ship for $30 will be the most "minimum investment" you can make

So the ship isn't really important....it's the $30 vs $60....you can sell the ship once in game to buy the Herald

But, $0 vs $60 if the game sucks later and you decide to buy at all obviously trumps $30 vs $60....I think it'll be good though

Edit: also, not all ships come with a "game" some are just add on ships....so you might get a add on ship but then end up having to buy the game anyway

TrackIR is literally the tits. Now that I figured out how to slow it down and make limits for how far it will turn and removed the lean feature. It's awesome. Might start using it for MWO again with the lean removed...

Limited movement gimbal mounted guns are perfect, set the limit for head movement to the guns limit, so I get full range but my head doesn't do a random 360 spin occasionally.

Pretty good stuff. Although I think SC sorta almost killed my PC due to it loading multiple instances of it at once.

That would be cool yeah but would confuse the shit out of me and make me slightly motion sick.

But mainly I meant flight-stick or steering wheel hardware, my bedroom is like a peasant cabin on a cruise ship.

Unless I could somehow wall mount my monitor witch would give me a little more room to play with that I could potentially fit flight controls on it.

Indeed. Wall mounts would solve the space problem, or having a plank like Yalk does it. Or something else you pull out and set beside your chair to put the HOTAS on.

Progress towards the first iteration of multiplayer hangars is also looking swell. Our programmers have been working closely with our pals at Behaviour to get the first iteration of this feature up and running. While this will continue being improved upon and polished, we have reached the point where players can now visit their friends’ hangars! And if that’s not enough, we also have chat and emotes incoming. The boys here in ATX have co-mingled their efforts with Behaviour to get the base chat service in place, which they will continue to work on until we have a solid first iteration to provide to you.

I cry ever tim...

MY PC is still to shit to play this. I really wish that the shit heads behind all the legal roadblocks would hurry the fuck up and get their heads out their backsides so so the large enough chunk of money (Up to 8k if your curious) so I get get a new PC already and it will be something shit hot.

But obviously I will have to give it a chin wag with all you guys into what you recommend, after all I don't want to spend £600 or so on a GPU only to find "Oh yeah this is brand new and super powerful but it causes problems with like every game ever because lol design flaw oops sorry no refunds lol lol lol"
nor do I want to end up with some cheap Chinese copy or something that sets fire to my case because the heatsinks are made out of papermache and star-metal or some shit.

I know I'm being a bit silly there but you get the idea.

As for budget it would be more or less a grand so options are near limitless.

Tom: I can give you this to read. It's what I used to help me with my decisions.

For GPU:
For star citizen, I really wouldn't be going under 3-4 GB of video memory. Also I got recommended Nvidia over Radeon. The main difference I could find see is that Radeon giver slightly more raw power, but Nvidia has better game support.

For CPU:

Note on the I7-4790K. It's temperture ok 99% of the time (mine idles at 30 degrees under no load and goes up to 70/80°C under heavy) but at that 1% I have gotten temperatures up to 95 degrees with it on turbo boost (when launching KSP with like 20 mods for the first time).

RAM: I'd recommend at least 8 but rather 16 GB or DDR3 decent mid-range at least 1600 MHz ram. Just note hat DDR3 is going out of production soon, because DDR4 is already on the horizon, so I'd look into that as well. DDR4 is out already I think, but only for CPUs that cost 1000 Eur or more. Anything below that mostly still runs on DDR3. If you're looking for a brand: Corsair is a good one, but Kingston is decent and reliable.

Mobo: Dunno but I'd guess anything that can carry you CPU, ram and GPU will go. Be careful that is supports secondary functions of your hardware (Crossfire/SLI and Turboboost, etc). I personally prefer gigabyte for both GPU and mobo.

PSU:A decent brand 600 Watt would be ok, unless you are planning on overclocking, but I really don't recommend that unless you know exactly what you are doing. I over clocked my old PC once and ended up fusing the PSU and Mobo into one unit. I was lucky that just my PSU died.
Don't be a sucker like me and think "oh this PSU costs 120 EUR and is form a recognised brand so it must be really good". I had no time to research them properly as I had to buy a new PSU long before the new computer when my old one died. It turns out my 120 EUR Corsair CX750 PSU is still kinda ok, but not nearly as good as I though it was. Also buy a modular cable one. I'm really sad that I didn't give those extra 20 EUR for CX750M because of the massive cable spaghetti monster that now resides within my computer.
And don't be cheap and buy a really cheap one. Sure you may get 750 Watt PSU for probably around 50-70 Eur, but those usually just have a solid fuse on them and no other protection. If something goes wrong with them, and it has a good chance it will, the'll usually take your entire computer with them. Good companies to look out for: Corsair and Cooler master.
As far as single-rail vs. multi-rail goes. Single-rail is notably cheaper and ok unless you're planning on putting more then one GPU/Physical CPU in your computer.

SSD is a must IMO and seeing your computer boot in 20 seconds is orgasmic. Be careful because the effect goes away as the windows slows down form it's own updates (because windows). Oh and games also load up in seconds, and virus scans suddenly last minutes instead of hours. Get at least 250-500 GB, if you can, but if low budget hits you don't be afraid to cut the SSD first as they are ridiculously expensive (my 2.5 inch cheap ass 250 GB SSD cost me 150 Eur. I could get a good 1 TB HDD for that).

Also be prepared to buy a new case that has a nice slot for a GPU. GPUs are fricking huge today so it probably won't go into your old case. And watch out most of the newer MoBo's don't have an 13 (or whatever the number is) pin IDE port on them any more. You'll need to go with Sata 3/ Sata expess and whatever the Dvd player use. I only realised this after I installed my old Dvd player into the new case tongue sticking out smiley Also dont be a knob like me and squeeze the entire milligram of coolant past on your CPU like I did. Add as little as possible. This is probably the reason my CPU runs a bit hotter, because the coolant paste is isolating it a bit.

Note by GPU I mean the entire graphics card, I'm just to lazy to fully write it out.

I'll write up more if I can remember it.

Cool cheers man.

Yeah I will ave enough money to buy a shit hot system that will last a good 5 years or so and of course the nature of how it will set up means that I will be able to upgraded if needed at a much lover cost as $400-£300 ever now and then is more affordable to the huge ass chunk for a whole new system.

You might think why dont I do that instead of going large with whole new rig but my PC is just so obsolete now, it would be like trying to get a N64 to play PS4 games. And yes I would just save up 300 or so for a component at a time but if I did that I would still be way behind on the level of technology and it would take me an entire epoch of humanity to do so, here I would be saying "FINALLY I HAVE A GOOD GAMING RIG!" with my track IR or Oculus rift and everyone else is already using their data-jacks implanted into the base for their skulls and directly linking up with their avatars in space adventure game 3050.
