Seriously though, this game is pretty good. Its currently still in the Alpha stage, but already very playable and fun. It boasts the following already.

Explore: Explore space generated in real time around you
Design: design you own ship or space station.
Customize: create customized weapons, harvesting elements, shields and docking stations for your ship. Combine elements to groups to make your modules even more powerful.
Multiplayer: full multi player: share control of your ship or design a ship together
Destroy: destroy your enemies with your powerful weapons or just infiltrate an enemy ship. There already is a big arsenal of destructive modules: Missiles (normal, heat seeking and target chasing), Lasers, and Explosive modules that detonate on impact
Salvage: salvage the ships of your fallen enemies to gain credits
Physics: fully integrated modern physics engine for real box-on-box collisions
Stealth: use radar jamming and cloaking modules for a surprise attack.
Multiplatform: runs on windows, mac and linux
Share: save, import & export your own ships as blueprints. You can upload your blueprints to any multi player server
AI: fight your own creations alone or in coop mode

We have been playing on the MadRealms European server -> madrealms.net:4242. Our faction base coordinate is -9,13,6, where we are extensively modifying an existing station and hoping a station save module will come soon. This includes factories, a useful list of factory recipes can be found here -> [www.star-made.org]

Everyone is welcome to come help out.. we are looking forward to making some great builds and wrecking other peoples day.

Remember: For sanity - always save your ships regularly. This is an alpha, so bugs will occur and occasionally your ship will need to be rebuilt. Dont be that guy, make sure its saved.

CJW Size classification chart:


All craft should be named with initials CJW[insert appropriate letter here]_name_full ship type
Example:CJWF_cyclone_heavyfighter



You can see your mass when you enter your ship in build mode. Mass and thrust will be stated where you usually see the system coordinates.


More in depth look at sizes and classes of ships.

It should be noted that anything thats +-10% over the border can be chosen based on maker discretion.
Examples:
Yalks X-Wing is less then 55, but more then 50 mass and it's still a fighter (CJWF).
82.5k Mass ship can still be a Battleship (CJWBs) type.

These are subject to change since we only got so far as destroyer. After that if the size doesn't feel right I will update it.


ALSO ALWAYS CLOSE THE DOORS! The station may be faction protected, but that still means people can come into our station and maybe steal stuff from our crates and possibly turn the faction module off.

Approved and I sorted the membership ranks out so you can all invite if your not still cadet.

Icevamps destroyer got lost in a bug, we to help rebuild it when the patch comes out which fixes ship loading. For now be very careful with your ships, as until patch you cannot use the catalogue.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the technology. We only need the blocks!

As soon as the catalogue is fixed, I'll buy it, or something else big and do a re-design. It's a scavenged pirate ship, and while cool on the inside and outside, woefully inefficient.

Zwei....check my X-Wing if you can...

While mostly just to do it (for giggles), I'd say that it's a reasonable size for a heavy long range fighter

What I found while building it:

It's about as small as you can reasonably build it and still have speed/shielding/hull protection/fire power....while no doubt not as strong as the bigger ship weapons, I think it had some teeth...and if it doesn't then...why build anything much smaller if mine can't damage anything

Also, any smaller and ships start looking stupid due to the resolution of the blocks...

...while I harbor no notions that it is the definition of a fighter I can't see anything being smaller and still being useful....I would suggest anything my ships weight class or below be reclassed as a fighter, I have no idea where it will fall....I didn't min/max completely in favor if looking cool...but I did pack it slap full of stuff

Also, it is clearly 1 man...corvettes and above should never be 1 manned, even if they are

Also, I like the term "pocket" in regards to warships....

ie: pocket battleship - a heavy cruiser/cruiser (in weight class) but carries firepower of a much larger ship

So maybe anything that falls in a certain weight class but has unusual amounts of fire power for its size be bumps to next weight class name but with the added "pocket" nomenclature

While im away im going to design the large ship if I have the time.. if anyone else wants to give it a stab feel free. What it needs...

Flagship:

Must be at least pocket battleship size on the chart.

# Armed with powerful salvage beams, instead of main cannons.

#Armed with several turret mounts to engage other smaller ships and help its escorts / fighters take down larger ships shields.

#Able to carry up to 8 fighters, 2 shuttles which are of small size internally

#Able to carry up to 2 corvettes / heavy fighter bombers / salvage craft internally

#Astrotechnician beams for repair.

Any ideas on this would be great.

Outside of this icevamps ship and expanding the station dome at the top with glass canopy.

#Limited factory capability.

Can you have drone ships? automated?


Because have a flight of super small, basically lasers attached to engines flown by drones would be useful....you really wouldn't want to pilot one due to low survival rate....but we gotta either build or buy these things...so they need to be cheap/easy to construct


I can start working on fighters and "shuttles"

I'm thinking Shuttles need to be atmospheric worthy....passenger compartment? ...so landing skids, no weapons...wings? if needed

I'll design us up a generic fighter that's fairly cheap/ easy to build that we can churn out...that we won't mind piloting....


I'm thinking Battlestar galactica style...something


I need reinforced corner hull's though



I'm also going to expand Zwei's hanger to accommodate more craft + working area

I think Yalk just had a seizure, but the only ship you need is a giant cock with as many guns you can fit on the balls to act as pubic hair of death, as well as a large chunk of missile launchers on the end of it to is can ejaculate protein torpedoes.

I think most of those changes are ok. Mostly lost was my ship, and the credits I spent on it. And the stuff me and zozo mined. Maybe he's lost his ship too.

We should do design challenges tbh. Make the best/prettiest 50 mass ship. Not 50,1 but 50. (For example)

I was thinking about how am do like 5x10x6 generators yesterday. My mind is not made for that kind of thing, but need to hash it out.
The easy way is to just line a circular hull on the inside with power blocks, bit it's not the absolute most efficient. I wanna see those less than 4,3 efficiency generators. (Load/Regen=Efficiency)

Thrust works kinda like power blocks,except the imagined volume doesn't matter. A single row of 6 gives more thrust than a 2x3 configuration, You get lesser still if you put 6 thrust blocks separately. I put a line of 11 blocks, granting 24.8 thrust. I made the line an L shape, and a jackshape and no difference. Then I lined up two lines of 5 and connected them with the 11th block in the middle, and thrust was dropped to 20.8

The two on the right are less efficient, all the others that have 11 blocks provide the same level of thrust. Also I was wrong in that you need to have nothing between thrusters and spess. Doesn't matter apparently.

Pretty ship


I took down the V-Mk3 from the server Catalog, I now have V-Mk4

it weighs 40 - 50 mass (not sure off top of head)
Has a thrust of 117-125 (depending on config)

I have the engines laid out in 6-7 block deep line in a Cross formation on the bottom and a smaller engine on top

Under each engine is a 3-4 row of sheilds, so 6-8 total

2 11 row lasers

every other internal space is filled with power blocks

Hull is all hardened to compensate some for the lack of shielding





V-Mk5 I will redesign to be twin V tailed, moving some of the power blocks to these and replacing the ones in the body with shield blocks,
This may be styled more as a bomber, if thats the case then I'll replace the lasers with missile tubes....probably not homing, the biggest most powerful missiles available...Most people I've found build big...any fighter/bomber needs to have quite a punch


In the end I'm thinking we will have:

V-MkIV : Fighter/interceptor/All purpose (Default Armament - Twin Lasers)
V-MkV : Fighter/Bomber ( Default Armament - Twin Missile)
V-MkV-S : (Default Armament - Twin Salvage beams) - Since beams don't draw power I might add cloaking to this one...it will be defenseless except for speed an stealth

The naming convention I was adopting for these was:

CJW_V-Mk4_FIGHTER_NAME (even though common pool, adding your name to YOUR fighter will help cut confusion if you customized it)


IceVamp, my fighter is on the server, if you can join feel free to test it out and make adjustments with the above in mind....keep also in mind it has to look cool smiling smiley if it functions then I can always move things around to keep the aesthetic Im going for

I also think we need to follow the rule of cool, I've attempted to make the fighters as neat and fun to use as possible while still keeping them efficient and useful...not an easy task....The key I've been using is to not try and make them do too much at once...by design they are specialized


Also, at least for me there is a definite line between the "fun" ships and the "utility" ships....

i.e. the two "devastators" in the hanger....me and zoso created them, anyone can use them to salvage and are fairly dispensable.....but try to avoid having them destroyed....I have no emotional attachment though so have at it....

I have updared the stations reactors to something that roughly uses the same amount of power blocks, but is infinitely more efficient. I will add more if power becomes a problem. I will also start drawing plans for turret placement and I will design more turrets. Also I am collecting green blocks, wedges and lights for a JadeFang Class corvette.

what you should be doing surat is building our factories


the Clan does not need more corvettes, you will have all the blocks you wish for if we have a factory to produce them



....actuallly, most shops have everything we need...except faction modules and plex doors....if we can make a factory to produce those two things we can buy literally everything else


if your looking at building turrets see if you can make a turret for a salvager beam....our JadeFang corvette should have at least 6 salvager beam turrets to stripe the universe bare


....also, any Clan asset is subject to me and Bane's approval...try not to make it fuck ugly tongue sticking out smiley I know this will be hard for you...I believe you are capable

We already have a factory for green blocks. I can make one for plex doors pretty quick, but I'm not sire about faction modules. Also an easier, but costlier way to get something it get one copy, place it on a ship core, save the blueprint and buy it 1000 times. Currently you don't have to be near a ship to get it. Also I have designed a mining/calvage drone that only fires 1 (very powerful) salvage beam.

Forgot to upload my current state of project in screenshot so can't work on it at work. Last check it had over 11 million power regen. However the power is being redesigned so I don't know if it will be useless then: Might have to do a redesign:

"Separation of Power
There is now a new module called "power tank", which will indicate the capacity. The existing power module will only define recharge now.
I'm doing a very soft switch to a new system, so you don't have to worry about your ship being suddenly powerless. As a first step, there is a base capacity (amount of blocks times 500), so that players can increase their stock of power tanks and put them on their ships, before they really become vital.
As a small hint on the future: Small ships won't really need tanks, as their base capacity will be enough. Large ships will need more tanks then recharge blocks, as the increment will represent an S-curve in the future. There will be options to instantly fill up your power tanks though.

If it isn't do we want to think about hosting a server?

I don't know the load this game has but if we can host MWLL I'm sure we could host this....we'd need to start over but....we could be admins and control updates

if we see a update causes issues we could wait on updating until hotfixes and patches resolve etc

I've loaded the fighter bomber onto the server....I bought one but it glitches and I had to partially disassemble it

I've also developed a carrier fighter but I think it needs more work, I may reconfigure it...

The Carrier fighter will be built to fit in a single docking block dock area....it's the most feasible size for carry on a another ship...

So it's basically a drone. I have been updating my shit with my knowledge about power efficiency and weapons. Ohmwrecker mk2 is ready, but cannot function as a turret yet since docking on docked units still isn't possible. But AFTER that gets done: prepare uranus! It's going to be the ultimate defense turret, that has 3 (maybe 4, I'm still contemplating it) lighter turrets on it to ward off fighters and drain shields, meanwhile the big one annihilates the ship (it's main cannons - d100 missiles can destroy a 30/30/30 unshielded hardened hull block with 1 shot, while 3 warthog turrets on it's back can drain shields instantly with 4x1700 shots that can fire cca 25-100 times a second). Both turrets ghave limited self shielding as well as limited power supply and regeneration capabilities.

Dart mk2 is a twitchy bastard that can easily outmaneuver even my cyclone heavy fighter and the cyclone mk2 itself has reduced weight and increased shielding and an ability to disappear form radar for 10 sec.

I'm attempting to make the most compact, block efficient, cost effective, power efficient, lethal and maneuverable carrier ship all while keeping it within a single docking cube

If we had hinges I'd use them in folding wings to conserve space

If your stuff wasn't so fucking butt ass ugly I'd say we use more of your ships

The new power system hit today: prepare to scrap your ships: base power storage is now 5000 and ship regeneration works on a logarithmic scale meaning the more regeneration you have the more power blocks will you need to see a noticeable effect on your ship. My JadeFang_mk2 could fire it's ship guns without losing any energy before, but now I had to increase the power regeneration as well as storage by roughly 20-30% and it still drain power at a reasonable state.

Interesting. Also, took a trip yesterday and got almost a thousand plex doors. I've started on a door for mega hangar, and built about 60000 more grey blocks into it. Over half done I'd say.

Spawn and place five blocks, five seconds later you come to realise that this is all the game consists of and your bored.

You need a REALLY REALLY REALLY long attention span to play these type of games and a fantastic imagination, witch thankfully I do have the reason why I havnt bothered to download this is because I know I wont enjoy it and it will become boring very very quickly, even with a large group such as us, witch these games are best played with.

But with that nay saying don't let me stop you guys from playing it, by all means have fun on my behalf and keep this updated as it will be cool to see what zany spess dildos you guys come up with.

Yes. There are also wedge blocks and corner blocks.
And as you can see from the discussion, placement matters a lot with a few of them. As long as you have the required blocks, you can make a ship placing them willy nilly, but to realize your design AND make it not be shit is quite the challenge.

Yeah, this isn't minecraft

When you build a ship it actually feels like simple engineering....honestly reminds me of when I had to make a Lego car run off a electric motor and steer of the speaker output in electrical engineering

There IS mindless block placing but it's for the Clan, not for "no fucking reason" ....like the mega hanger for our capital ship


Like Ice said, you can make a ship pretty easy....but if you've read my posts it's really difficult (especially) making fighters that are

1. Cool
2. Block/mass efficient
3. Cheap
3. Power efficient
4. Useful

The easiest way to to just drop two of those

I usually compromise by giving up a little on each, zwei just completely ignores 1. And 2.

I've finally after 2 weeks think I have a good fighter design, will make it when I get home <2 weeks I've been working on a good small carrier fighter

Ice has gone the other route and is mastering development of large ships

My next goal is to make a light carrier


Lots to do and pretty complex and it's spess....if your creative and like engineering then it's fun (I'm creative and love machines and breaking tweaking them

But yes, it is rather interesting. I won't bitch at you for not playing Tom, but it's free to play atm. If you like it, throw the guy three bucks and it's yours.
