That's a good beginner strategy. When you get the hang of it you'll add more.

yeah...more nukes
Just 1 more thing EXPAND MORE! You can't run a base off 4 mex. There are 2 ways of expanding:
1. The plague: You expend everywhere ASAP and after your expansion gets taken out you expand again. Good when enemy does limited/no raiding
2. The safe way: You expand and you build turrets near your expansions. If enemy is raid crazy and likes raiding everywhere

But don't worry if you don't get this one. I still have troubles with it myself.

I've played a couple more quick games...

I think the other thing that throws me (The same reason I love EU4, CoH, SoSe, CiV, TW, Risk, AoE, RoN,). is that I typically play strat games for territory. I can't think of a single Strategy (rts or tb) that I haven't concentrated on controlling more territory than the enemy....my goals are usually to drive the other guy out or off a point and make it my color...from there I either stop worrying about him or keep pressing for the next point.

This isn't a game about territory (it is but just in the sense of controlling resources and being spread out so you can't get wiped out) you don't turn ground your color, or a point your color (I don't count metal extractors). It's literally 100% about killing your enemy, I know most games boil down to that, but that's literally the last bit of the game...most of the game however is making yourself stronger and your enemy weaker and thus finally kill him....I know you do that in PA but its different....

ramble ramble ramble avoiding working on the next to do on a friday afternoon....

btw, zwei...too much was happening and I didn't get a chance to tell you....

I'll play PA with you or bane when the other one of you isn't online...the matches don't seem to take too long. I want to get better at the computer then I'd be up for finding matches against people....

I don't really want to play too much by myself, that's how you develop strategies that "work" but won't work against someone without a lobotomy...which is fine if I always play the computer (which is fun) but ya'll seem pretty keen on playing homuns....

anyway, point : I'm up for playing with either of you...or anyone else who has it...

Thats a shame bill, it was like $10 a few weeks ago....I think zwei posted on here about the sale..that's when I picked it up.

I wouldn't say its...boring....just, it kinda is when your playing by yourself...with friends its entertaining.

I think we need to play together more, and work on maybe splitting up duties different ways to see what flows the best whether its by unit type or by job ie (Air, bots, tanks) vs ( resource gathering expanding, defense, offense) , I'm kinda leaning toward the second option,
someone builds using air, bots, tanks to construct buildings, star gates, resources buildings, unit factories
someone builds walls, towers, artillery, anti nukes etc
someone builds all the offensive units, nukes, space...

I was going to say that there would be some cross over with Defense and Offense/building but if the Defense guy just used the combat fabbers for combat units/ building it would be easier to keep units straight between players and limit the "where the fuck did my work gang go? " "oh, your a scrub, I needed them for something else" ....This is assuming the combat fabbers can build defensive structures etc

Thats a very good idea we've banded abou yalk. Next game, im focusing primary on air whilst zwei does ground combat.

Having someone to do pure orbital and resource on top of that would be awesome.. and its not like we cant rotate the roles so everyone can have a shot at different things.

In this way, we maximise our actions per minute, as we are all working on specialised areas. Would be awesome to test in practice.

Nah don't get it for me, I'll only end up not particularly liking it and not playing it. At least then it's only my money I waste.

Edit: I'm sticking with it being pretty boring though, not enough variation and it seems to boil down to who has more units->better economy->can put rocket engines on a thing first. And please don't give me the whole "it's still beta" argument, because it's already a sore subject to be buying an incomplete game.

Next time it's dirt cheap I'll get it and play a few rounds with you all till I get sated then unistall it and never play it again.

I agree with this a lot actually....maybe I've said it earlier in this thread? maybe, can't be asked to look back...but I have felt this though

I tend to like smaller squad based games where..... Keeping units alive > building more units

we need to have some passworded games on men of war assault squad as well. That game was fun.

But yes, PA really does centre around the economic gameplay. Its actually quite deep, and there are alot of strategies like TA when you dig under the surface. However, who wins games comes down to who can balance the economy whilst keeping up a constant attack.

it really doesnt award passive play, which i really like. The unit variety does not fleshing out however, especially in orbital, which is SORELY lacking at the moment.

Will be playing tonight for sure if anybody wants a game.

Read a couple threads from zwei complaining about stationary air towers and combat fabbers (agree with both) ....gotta say, that forum is pretty nice....no one bashed you for bad grammer or anything, just immediately started discussing...

me and zoso played the AI last night....I tried going AIR...we restarted

2nd game played BOTS and he focused Tanks....The AI restarted our game with a moon

3rd game, same tactics....I avoided raping economy as hard (went easy on Combat fabbers)....we won, fairly well...but the AI was getting close to Halleys on one of the moons....we nuked their commanders

What's the opinion of Pelter's? and specifically building a horde of bot fabbers and slowly pushing with walls/pelters/AA/ (with use of T1 army to defend fabbers)....I sorta proto started

What is y'all's build order?

Mine is something along the lines of:
mex>mex>mex>EC>EC>bot factory>ECx40

Then build a combat fabber and speed with commander, then churn out fabbers from it for the rest of the game....use those fabbers to build some initial defenses while I send my commander to build EC everywhere....Then the fabbers go grab Mex and reinforce with towers/walls/AA...the 2-3 T1 bot factories build DOX/Grenadiers/AA bots to push the front lines, followed by fabbers to build defenses on the stolen ground and to lock it down...

I'm going to try to get better at locking down land and building stargates so my initial factories are essentially at the front....

some where in there I try and build a orbital factory and get avengers in the sky to lock down space travel...once that is dominated I usually attempt an (transport) for some fabbers to build a stargate and start moving to a new world to claim...with avengers etc....

So far I've just stuck to T1 spam, as Zoso usually goes T2 and gets our T2 economy rolling....once that happens I either build nukes or he starts rolling them with T1/T2 tank spam....our economy crashes when both of us try and build T2 stuff, so I just let him handle it....

My default one when combat fabbers get fixed is:

mex>mex>power>mex>vehicle>10-20 power>1 of each storage>repeat

The current one I'm experimenting with is:

Mex>mex>power>mex>power>bot>power>assist bot>infinite power

Combat fabbers are ridiculously op if used correctly, but they do require a bot ore micro. I have noticed that when comparing the first build order to the second one, the second one will be 50-75% faster if executed correctly. But on the other hand for you Yalk and anyone else that has't bee n playing this since September 2013 I'd recommend sticking to the first one and only building combat fabbers to assist your factories rather than everything. THe second build order can be as much as 200% slower if you misuse your combat fabber and overproduce or if you lose it.

Here are my thought: stargates everywhere are not really good unless you are playing on really large planets as stargates add micro and they consume power. Also as of the previous patch you really can't lock down stuff. Turrets are decent, but they aren't Dierson level anymore. They get easily killed by just 2-3 infernos pr like 5-10 tanks. I only use turrets to assist my army in defense of critical points. Going orbital is good but it's al long time investment. If you can sneak it off and still hold on as if nothing happened (you reclaim your orbital and hope to god, that the enemy didn't see you with an orbital radar) then it's really good, otherwise it's very risky. T1 orbital only increases mobility and provides recon which is usually better in the form of T2 air. T2 orbital is good, but it doesn't expand your economy while at the same time it's costlier the other T2.
Also building more than 2-3 avengers is bad unless you are actively fighting for orbital superiority. You only need 2-3 avenger above their orbital factory to snipe anything that takes off and even if you have 500 avengers the enemy can still build a couple of umbrellas and punch hole for their fabber to slip through.

Oh and T1 spamm = GOOD, any T2 = BAD currently. It takes 1 minute and 4 seconds for a singe t2 mex to pay for itself and it's going to take you about 10-20 minutes for your T2 to pay off. Additionally if you take a cost of T2 unit and an identical cost in T1 units T1 will win hard. The only exceptions these (andy the only good reason to go T2) are nukes/Halleys if you really need to take a planet, antinukes, T2 air for pelicans and maybe T2 vehicle for infernos (T2 orbital is exempt fron this because it works differently). Generally speaking you always want T1 over T2 unless you are about to pull off a snipe.

that was the most informative and cohesive post you have ever written...ever, on topic, to the point....bravo

I'll discuss with zoso about our build order....

What are you thoughts on T2 power? seems power is always the limiter...nearly always unless we are pushed back to base and about to lose anyway...

I've been building a single combat fabber to assist with the production of that particular bot factory it came out of (and emergency building of nukes or Halleys)

If I'm not mistaken you can build what, 4 or is it 8 T1 bot factories for a single T2? I usually do that and then just churn out T1 spam....I tried building small defensive bases in mex outposts....it worked...sort of, it did keep smal single units from take that ground...but a determined army mowed over it....it looked like an X with AA on the tips of one line and Turrets on the other, with a pelter in the middle....is a pretty good setup but not something you should spam everywhere.....I had just as much luck sending a small contingent of DOX/AA/Grenadier to a area and just sitting them there....they can handle most things and easier to reinforce....
